Blogs are essential to promoting a book, a business, raising your career profile and platform. But it can be so much more when you develop a blog to connect–and celebrate–a community of like-minded people.

Stacey Harwood is here to help all beginners overcome their self-critical anxiety and show anyone how blogging can be a fun way to test new ideas, focus group material and cultivate a supportive and exiting community around books, passions, hobbies, causes, idea, businesses or non-profits.

This class will cover:

  • How to start a blog
  • How to refine your vision of your blog
  • Creating and modifying a site using a free blogging platform template (you will see, you do NOT have to be a tech genius!)
  • Learn the difference between writing for a blog vs. writing for print
  • Which components of a blog post are most critical
  • Specifics on how to structure your blog posts to make them so enjoyable other will want to share them
  • How to handle community feedback
  • Tips on finding readers and growing your audience in coordination with social media platforms

Class design:

  • Brief lectures on concepts
  • Class blog for students to design and critique
  • Discussion of best practices
  • Evaluation of success of strategies

Students should have:

  • Laptop computer with wifi capabilities so you can work with a free source site like Wordpress or Typepad
  • Spent time before the first class looking at blogs and identified 6 that they would like regularly following and/or find inspiring
