Editorial/Public Relations Intern

Ideasmyth is seeking an awesome intern who has a passion for the written word for our Editorial/Public Relations position. Interns will have the opportunity of being trained in top-level editing of client manuscripts. 

Editorial/Public Relations Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the refinement of Ideasmyth’s social media, website, and blog content
  • Research up and coming titles and authors as potential subjects for the Ideablog
  • Collaborate ideas for weekly/monthly Ideasmyth publication
  • Attend networking events with industry leads
  • Write and edit blog and social media content to be published and posted
  • Promote Ideasmyth, along with its events, classes, and workshops on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram)
  • Provide weekly reports of social media metrics & Google Analytics of which platforms are driving the most visitors to our website
  • By studying the above metrics and learning what generates maximum traction, constantly evolving our strategies
  • Schedule our posts in advance using Hootsuite and Facebook schedulers
  • Tagteam with the Events intern on maintaining our Ideasmyth.com website company calendar

Requirements:

  • Interest in journalism, media and editorial experience and knowledge
  • Interest in learning and using WordPress
  • Obsessive about social media with daily activity on at least one major social media platform we use

Bonus Skills:

  • Already have generated a 1K+ following (for self or other entity) for a blog or a major social media platform
  • Prior social media account management with other companies
  • Comfortable using Adobe creative suite to create images, memes, etc.
  • Hootsuite experience

Ideasmyth is also seeking  an a web editor intern for our Ideablog. The posts will focus on community-beneficial content, like celebrating clients’ public successes, events, publications, exhibitions and creations, along with Ideasmyth’s services, workshops, events and other resources.

Blog Editor Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the refinement of Ideasmyth’s social media, website, and blog content
  • Research up-and-coming talent and authors as potential Featured Creatives for our Ideablog
  • Collaborate ideas for weekly/monthly Ideasmyth publication
  • Write and edit blog and social media content to be published and posted
  • Promote Ideasmyth, along with its events, classes and workshops on social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram)
  • Provide weekly reports of social media metrics & Google Analytics of which platforms are driving the most visitors to our website
  • By studying the above metrics and learning what generates maximum traction, constantly evolving our strategies
  • Work closely with the CEO to manage and oversee all aspects of written communication for Ideasmyth’s social media and web presence
  • Scouting out and contacting potential blog contributors, editors and course instructors
  • Facilitating correspondence between Ideasmyth’s CEO and guest bloggers
  • Process all incoming work to be edited by Ideasmyth’s editors
  • Delegate editing work and pick up the remaining submissions
  • Maintaining back end administrative and junior intern documents related to blogging and social media activity

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing or a similar field
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a graduate program
  • Interest in journalism, media and editorial experience and knowledge
  • Interest in learning and using WordPress
  • Personal blogging experience – WordPress familiarity a bonus!
  • Familiarity with (or passion for developing) major social media platforms (we are active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Basic coding knowledge (HTML/CSS) a plus
  • Personal interest in contemporary authors, bloggers, and other creatives
  • Comfortable learning new technology and software
  • Obsessive about social media with daily activity on at least one major social media platform we use
  • Curiosity and gameness: i.e. someone who brings up things in which they’re interested and who would be up for attending networking events with industry leads
  • Detail oriented and strong analytical and writing skills
  • Strong teamwork ethic
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Must have strong people skills and be able to motivate staff to achieve goals
