In a world plagued with serious problems, serious silliness becomes an even more valuable public service. One of my personal favorite silliness providers is Shannon Greer. As an in-demand professional photographer (advertising, lifestyle, fashion), getting smiles out of his subjects is his business. Follow one of his social media feeds (like his Instagram feed @mistergreer, which I highly recommend!), and you’ll get to see his outrageous outtakes that are guaranteed to make you smile. Greer’s ability to use amusement to bring out any model’s best side also extends to the animal kingdom—as you can see on his Shanimals website, dedicated to the friendly farm animals in the Hudson, NY area. Treating these casting calls like any other, he always finds the standout in any herd and captures them in strikingly expressive poses. For our Dog & Pony Shows theme this month, he was an obvious Featured Creative pick. Smile on!

When I wanted to photograph a lamb, it was suggested that I visit Kinderhook Farm. It’s as lamby as you can get. Nugget was a pleasure to photograph, primarily because he was bottle fed, and didn’t do a mad dash whenever I approached him. Such a gentle smile too!

~~~Shannon Greer was born a poor hillbilly in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas and raised in the mean streets of 1970’s New York City. He is one of the few Americans to have a European airport and a river named after him. He loves Indian food, Malbec and Guinness. When not photographing, he likes nothing more than body surfing in the ocean and training for his future black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His clients include MacLaren McCann, Sid Lee, Perry Ellis, Cramer-Krasselt, Citibank, Dunn & Co, Publicis and Target. Visit his Shanimals site for more adorable animal awesomeness.
