Stories at 966 – True Stories Told by Brooklyn Seniors

June 21, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

The seniors of Grace Agard Harewood Neighborhood Senior Center have stories to tell!

This is a diverse group of Brooklynites who will present you with real life stories on subjects ranging from true love, to travel, family and life in Brooklyn and beyond. They have been crafting their stories with story coaches Cyndi Freeman, Dawn J. Fraser and Meliora Dockery as part of the SU- CASA artist in residency program. We are proud to bring you two live performances celebrating the work they have created!

Featuring stories by: Ellis The Nazarene, Gail Rivers, Susan Gordon, Arthur Douse, Vaughn Armour & Others

This project is the subject of a documentary by filmmaker Amy Grumbling that will air on Brooklyn Free Speech tv.

SU-CASA is collaboration among the New York City Council, the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA), and the Department for the Aging (DFTA) and Brooklyn Arts Council. The program is funded in FY17 by New York City Council and we would like to thank Councilmember Laurie Cumbo for her support. Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) is proud to administer this program on behalf of the borough of Brooklyn.

STORIES OF NEW YORK – SENIORS – is an arts and artist based collaborative project dedicated to encouraging connection, agency, and community bonding within the senior community, through the medium of storytelling. This event is produced and hosted by co-facilitators Cyndi Freeman, Dawn J. Fraser and Meliora Dockery. Together, they are winners of three artist-in-residence awards through the Brooklyn Arts Council: SPARC (Seniors Partnering with Artists City Wide – 2015) and SU-CASA (2016 & 2017).

This project is also supported by The Fort Greene Council, which receives funding from Department for the Aging.
